Anoora was born 14 April 1971 in Hospital Orang Asli Gombak, which has a record of her true birthdate. However, according to her identity card, her birthday is 4 June 1978. This false birthdate was arbitrarily assigned by Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli because Anoora’s mother had burned her children’s birth certificates (after her husband left her for another woman). 

Being illiterate and lacking parental support, Anoora tended to channel her wild, untamed feelings in self-sabotaging ways – until August 2020, when artist Honey Khor began visiting Kampung Pertak regularly and Anoora was inspired to try her hand at painting. By early 2021 Anoora was happily applying acrylic paints on canvas with remarkable results. Not only is Honey a superb artist and art teacher, she also happens to have vast experience working with “special needs” children and recently embarked on a Master’s degree course in Art Therapy. Anoora has grown immensely fond of “Teacher Honey” and loves getting positive feedback from her – and now from many others who admire her unschooled spontaneity and natural affinity with colors.
